Very efficient book. It moves across large swaths of content in a fast manner by reducing the material to the essentials and moving on. It is not intended for in-depth study of any particular subject, but rather to give a broad overview of how all components of economics, government, and corporations all interlink together. Overall, I think it is a great starting point from which one can launch more in-depth analysis on any of the topics covered and a great reference to see how that topic connects with the others in the grand scheme of things.

I got this book to understand finance basics so I could pass my CIA exam. I passed (yay!) and have a much better understanding of Finance than I used to. I have the book in my cube at work and refer to it quite often. There are a few pages with just ratios on them and it helped me “see” what the ratios were. For example, I was able to “see” that all the TO ratios had “average x” on the bottom and either sales/cogs/purchases on top and I was like OHHHH DUHHHHHHHH. This book was really helpful. Definitely get it if you’re looking to get an overall understanding of Finance.

In my second year as a MBA student and I find myself using this book for many classes. Would recommend.

I was expecting this book to explain things in details but I found it giving you overall of everything where you need to google to have more details on almost every chapter. In my opinion, investpedia is far better than this book.

Good

Just as described

Arrived quickly and helped me get through the remainder of my course. Wish there were more explanations to the equations for PV and FV in it though

very basic.

The Polar Bear Son: An Inuit Tale, by Lydia Dabcovich

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2. A whimsical tale in which an old Eskimo-Inuit woman adopts an orphan polar bear cub that provides food for her as it grows up. When the men of the village grow jealous of the animal's superior hunting ability and decide to kill it, she sends it away. For years afterward, she walks far out on the ice and meets the bear, who brings her salmon and seal. The story gives a picture of motherly love toward an "adopted child," one the woman will love always. "Little Bear," a selection in The Dancing Fox (Morrow, 1997), edited by John Bierhorst, is a similar tale, but the villains in that retelling are neighboring villagers who threaten to kill the bear since it is catching their food sources, and the woman and bear are never reunited. Thus, Polar Bear Son has a more satisfying ending. Illustrated in muted pastel colors, the pictures capture this stark, yet beautiful, winter world. The clothing styles are of Greenland Inuit but the landscape could be anywhere in the Arctic. The author gives explanations about the background and her research into Inuit tales. A heartwarming selection to fill requests for multicultural picture books and/or books on this region.?Mollie Bynum, formerly at Chester Valley Elementary School, Anchorage, AKCopyright 1997 Reed Business Information, Inc.

I bought this for my 3-year-old grandson's birthday. I always read every book I send him very carefully, as I'm a poet and a visual artist, and also know his interests. If the book speaks to me, it often is one he enjoys. Inuit art and life ways are a specific area of my interests and studies, and when I learned that my grandson had enjoyed another book about Inuit life, I thought highly of this one when it arrived and I read it, several times, and have been told he likes it very much ;-) The illustrations are beautiful, and the content of the folktale and its telling are accurate and profound--a tale of reciprocity and compassion, of human jealousy and greed, and the wisdom that ultimately prevails by living in balance with all life.

I am not a child. I did not read this book to a child. I am a senior citizen who thoroughly enjoyed, even loved, this delicate wonder of an Inuit tale retold with great and simple skill by Lydia Dabcovich. I am even more impressed with this talented author when I note that she also is the book's illustrator. The fascinating illustrations of a world unknown to many of us who live in warmer climes are in muted pastels, most effective in capturing a world of sea and ice.The story is also very moving because it is about an old lady with no family who lives alone. Until she comes across a polar bear orphan, she struggles to survive and can only do so by at times having to accept food offerings from her fellow villagers. She herself lives on the village outskirts in a small hut.I do not want to give away the contents of the story, so spoiling the surprise element, but I will state that the denouement is a happy one. So when threatening events are described from time to time, don't fret! All goes well.I read this book on the heels of reading another wonderful tale for children and adult-children, "Lemon the Duck," also beautifully illustrated. When I finished that book, I felt that I would never find an equal in quality and true enjoyment. But I certainly have in this delightful, lovely rendition of a timeless tale.

This book was remarkably captivating. I recommend it to all preschool teachers who want a diverse curriculum. The pictures, the words kept my group engaged through out the whole reading time, and the next day or so when I read it again, I noticed that some remembered it so well they recalled the events of the story. The story in its simplicity says much about the human heart of loving and caring for each other. Life problems in the story showed a positive outcome that leaves an opportunity for discussions and imagination. I read other books during the week, but this one was most received and understood by a mixed age group from 3-5 year. Plus, you cannot beat the price!

A heartwarming story that conveys real values. Excellent book for children to learn about far away lands and how children live with their families in their environment, and have confidence-building, growing up experiences.

This is a great book.

I use this book, when I teach my class about the Artic and it's native people. I try to use stories based on their culture and this story is awesome. Shows a realistic nature of humans in their actions and reactions. Overall a beautifully told story !

Beautiful story! I'm so grateful it was written so I can read it to my 3 year old daughter.

What a sweet story, purchased for my 2nd grade classroom.

After seeing Glennon on Oprah I immediately bought this book for myself and my daughter, who is a young mother. I understood she was a blogger but didn't quite realize this was a collection of her blog posts (or at least it seems like it is), which are probably available on her site. I did enjoy her writing style and sense of humor, especially during the difficult times in life. I also appreciated her religious perspectives which were presented in ways that those who might not agree wouldn't feel judged or wrong (even though I agreed, that's important to me). I have been going through multiple traumatic experiences the past 10 years (husband's addiction and resulting separation and near-divorce) and was so inspired by her interview with Oprah, I was hoping to get some inspiration as I went through the latest roller coaster, breast cancer treatment. Aside from Glennon's addiction, which she dealt with before becoming a mom, and a marital issue that fortunately didn't break them (I wish she'd said how, or maybe that's her next book) it seemed her issues were those of a suburban mom (or First-World Problems as my kids used to call them). I am a suburban mom, but not really into some of the more materialistic things she is, so I didn't really relate to her. What I did envy were her ability to make friends and have such close intimate relationships that are real. When you are diagnosed with cancer, even pre-cancer caught early like me, people react weirdly. You quickly find out who are your real friends and who is willing to have "real" relationships. Unfortunately, I found nearly every blood relative wasn't going to "be there" for me and only had about enough non-blood relatives and friends to count on one hand, which was enough. As a result of their weird reactions, I didn't announce it to anyone beyond my inner circles. I was so disturbed by the realization that most people don't have (or maybe don't know how to have) "real" relationships like Glennon describes. I really hoped to learn how to transform my family relationships by making them more real, because the lack of support was devastating. So maybe I had unrealistic goals because I bought this book after her Oprah interview. She may be at a completely different place now than when she wrote this and I want to learn more from her now as the issues in this book are important ones more suburban moms can relate to, but they really aren't BIG life issues when you really need good close friends and deep relationships that are "real."

Glennon blogs on momastery.com and her brutally honest accounts of her life brought her popularity, then of course, a book deal.Glennon doesn't give two hoots about what others think. She isn't afraid to tell the world she was an alcoholic, a drug addict and a bulimic. And when she finally got rid of all those toxins in her life and embraced her new-found self, she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. At one point in her life she even got an abortion. Then she decided to adopt but her adoption plan fell through due to her background. So she adopted a highway instead (Yup!).She also wrote of friends, family and strangers who came to her aid when she needed it and/or supported her decisions, impetuous or not. She's very fortunate to be surrounded by people who love her as she is.What makes her stories stand out, to me, is definitely her honesty, almost too honest to be true sometimes. And the fact that she bares her ugly, crazy, messy life out for all to read, is just plain bravery. And the world thanked her for that. Because of her bravery, she gave hope. Because of her kindness, she shed light.Overall it's a pretty good read with some inspiring messages throughout. She can be pretty funny, taking the mickey out of Chaos here and there. But at times I'm not sure if every detail in her story is true or she's just spicing it up for the sake of readership. Like asking a 3 yo to write down what's she feeling. I don't know any 3 yo who can write. Or when she asked her son to look a bully in the eye. Really? What if the bully ended up hitting him? He's lucky he got off the hook so easily. Just my thoughts. What I got out of this book Live life with openness and honesty. Openness to embrace the challenges and changes that Life offers. Make whatever you want out of the lemons Life throws you. Be honest and true to yourself. Tune out the noise, tune in to your voice. The voice that tells you right from wrong. The voice that only you know is YOU. Just do what gives you joy and peace, because no matter what yo do, people are going to judge anyway. In times of crisis, sift. "...the Greek root of the word crisis is 'to sift', as in to shake out the excesses and leave only what's important." Eliminate the unwanted, keep what matters.Namaste.

Glennon is the most wonderful author I have every read. She's honest, raw, emotional, brilliant and so funny. I stumbled upon her through social media that lead me to her books. I feel like some one actually get's me after reading both her Warrior books. Empaths unite! Her books have made me feel more validated than anything else I've ever ready in my last 34 years. Thank you Glennon for your honesty! Bless you and "brutiful" soul!

I was a little apprehensive about this book but now I highly recommend it. The numerous references to the author's religious faith were just a natural part of her story, without the slightest hint of apostatizing. I respect and I'm happy for the author that her faith is such a support for her, even though it's not useful to me. The remainder of the book was fabulous. Don't read this book if you are easily offended. The author is about as real and honest and personally disclosing as one can be. And being so, provides the kind of support one usually gets only from a dear, long-term, close friend. I will hold onto this book for dipping into for future pick-me-ups!
