Too often the tragic deaths of Native people are rarely reported or investigated. I appreciate the research, the fact finding and the evidence that shows what we, as tribal people have known for centuries: our lives and deaths have little value to most of the dominant society, but when such research and facts are blatantly revealed, there is no place for "justice systems " to continue to ignore the absolute lack of respect and value of the lives of indigenous people who suffer and die without value from the white system of bigotry and hate. This is a hard book to venture through, but worth the affirmation of what we have been saying to the systems of law and order: we are not valued even as human beings.

Razack does an amazing work describing with detail and an enormous amount of cases on how inquiries and inquest into the deaths of Canadian American Indians in custody get controlled by the state or simply ignored. Some people may not agree, but I find Jack Kornfield's voice pleasant and soothing and I feel that his way of speaking exudes kindness. It feels as though he genuinely cares about his audience. I think he is skilled at teaching beginners. I have listened to him on YouTube, and he is the same on there, but this is longer and better quality, although you don't see him. This is a CD, not a DVD. But with your eyes closed, it does not matter much. Although all beginning meditation instruction emphasizes the non-judgemental process of bringing thoughts back to the focus, Jack Kornfield makes me feel encouraged and helps me with the non-judgemental aspect to it.Another thing I like about him is that he is flexible about technique. He does not insist on certain postures rigidly, and although he makes suggestions about how to do the process, he makes it clear that if the suggestion doesn't work for you, you don't have to do it!My favorite method of meditation is using the breath, and that's what he teaches. Mantras, walking, etc etc etc do not work as well with me, so I like the focus on the breath.One of the meditations is on loving kindness and forgiveness, which is always good, and I think he does it well.I have no criticisms of this CD whatsoever!

This was my introduction to Jack Kornfield and I find that his guided meditations have helped me with basic sitting mindfulness meditation while also broadening my horizons to other types of meditation. I look forward to trying some of his books.

This is a great collection of meditations, includes a variety of practices and Jack Kornfield's voice is very soothing. It is down to earth and simple, not cheesy and new agey. I like to use a variety of guided meditations or I get used to one and don't really listen/do it. Along with Bodhipaksa Guided Meditations: For Calmness, Awareness, and Love and Jon Kabat-Zinn Guided Mindfulness Meditation, this is one of the best cd's in my opinion.

Great beginners guide, no background music, i like that there was just quiet in between his encouraging soothing directives. My favorite is the forgiveness one, forgive others but also yourself. OOOHHHHHMMMMM.

This book covers the basic material science of most commonly-used dental materials. It is generally easy to read and understand and is as current as any text dedicated to the subject. Most of the properties which govern the performance of dental biological materials are presented in a manner which should be understood by dental students and dentists. Since manipulation of materials ranges from 50 to 90 per cent of what dentists spend their work time doing, a book like this should be part of their reference library. This book serves that purpose well. The editors are well-known experts in their respective fields and have chosen keen contributions from competent and established investigators to effectively discuss and elucidate all areas covered by this textbook. As a former faculty member, who taught in dental schools and carried out research programs, and now a general dental practitioner who still participates in material science research, I highly recommend this book.

This book helped me a lot in my dental class and it helped me understand about the materials. it was in great shape when I got it. much cheaper than the school book store.

This book, while detailed, is riddled with areas of unexplained technical terminology and confusing sentence structure. A lot of terminology (for example from metallurgy) is mentioned but completely unexplained, which forces the reader to go look up terms to understand what the author is talking about.Some frustrating sentence structure is also common, requiring several reads to get one's head around what is actually being said. For example "sometimes the abraded area is smooth" or "[this occurs] externally, usually in the interior..."Overall it's a useful book, but the way it is written makes for an extremely tedious read.

I found this book good for gaining a general knowledge on dental materials. There really isn't anything else around that is better. It is lacking in specific formulations and leaves out a few areas of dentistry - particularly endodontics and endodontic medicaments. Cavit, Ledermix etc are just not discussed. Light cured special tray resins are not covered in much detail although I would have to say that in general this book is good.If you are an undergraduate then this book is definitely worth buying. If you are a dentist who believes the brochures put out by dental manufacturers then I think this book is a must so that a general understanding of assessing dental materials is gained. Overall I would have to give this book four stars.

I bought this as a last minute Christmas gift for my 3rd grade daughter [age 8] who reads at a 5th grade level. I did not have a chance to read it first due to the proximity of the holiday, but went off the reviews, the wonderful artwork and the bit that I could see online [which was only the first part of the book which was fine]. Halfway through my daughter was freaked out and would not finish the book, and I had to implement anti-nightmare measures - allow her to stay up later than normal watching a calming show while we talked about it. I then read it myself and could see why. It is creepy and not remotely what I would consider a children's book. Personally, I think the age range should be well over 10 [as I know it would creep out my 10 year old], but kids that age are unlikely to read this kind of book. My first awareness that something was wrong, was when she told me that the one character was naked which struck me as odd and when she showed me I could tell the book was not remotely appropriate - I was mortified that I had given my daughter this terrible book. - There's fun creepy and then there is the kind that induces nightmares in those with already active imaginations and this was definitely in the latter category. I rarely write reviews, and try very hard not to say negative things about books as a librarian, but as a parent this was not okay.

Spooky kids story with truly beautiful art. Just be aware that it has an uncertain ending. Not that it is a tragic or bad ending, but it is left open to interpretation. Maybe a little too spooky for kids younger than 5 or 6. Parents that absolutely require a clear cut happy ending will not like this, but artistically hip parents will love it, maybe even more than their kids do (which is me). But even if the story is a little odd for you, the art is positively spectacular. The two page spreads are beyond great. I only wish there was another follow up story!Nice big size and quality binding as well.

I have been a fan of Lorena Alvarez's work for a while and have been waiting for this book to come out. My eldest (8) loves the comic book style. she is already asking when there is going to be another book.

This book earns it's 5 stars based on the artwork alone, but the story itself also is well deserving of it. I wouldn't necessary call this a graphic novel, but the title of a "graphic short story" fits more precisely. I'm a devout lover of EC comics and this story would fit nicely in that tradition. I also love the film work of Guillermo Del Toro and the artwork in this book is very similar to the images you see in his films.

This book is amazing! The colors and full page artworks are incredible. It reminds me of Spirited Away/Over the Garden Wall. My only complaint is that it's too short. Sequel please.

Didn’t fit my expectations. I’m not fond of buying books that are linked to religions that I don’t practice without knowing. This was just a setting: catholic school. But it felt like a waste of money.
