Dr. Hoffman was a humble and kind person who writes very well. He was a fine chemist, spending his entire career at Sandoz Labs and inventing several substances that wound up being good sellers and are still being made and sold today. This book must be extremely rare to find a physical copy so if you are interested in reading it I suggest you look online (I read it at [...]). This book gives a complete history of the Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman's research leading up to the discovery of LSD-25 as well its effects on society at the time, its uses, and even his correspondence with various writers and other enthusaists (I bet you didn't know that he frequently met up with Aldous Huxley). A quote in his introduction describes what he intends to write about:"It is my desire in this book to give a comprehensive picture of LSD, its origin, its effects, and its dangers, in order to guard against increasing abuse of this extraordinary drug... I believe that if people would learn to use LSD's vision-inducing capability more wisely, under suitable conditions, in medical practice and in conjunction with meditation, then in the future this problem child could become a wonder child."The beginning parts on his initial work with egrot alkaloids and his synthesis of LSD is probably only of interest to a chemist, but it isn't hopelessly complicated (I enjoyed that section even with my minimal understanding of chemistry). It wasn't until years after its initial founding that he was drawn back to it and discovered its psychedelic qualities. It goes on to discuss the thrill/fear of his first accidental trip and his awe of its capabilities. This book is more than just an account of events and history. Unlike typical scientific writings, it often discusses his feelings and beliefs about LSD and even his travels to other countries for personal psychedelic research. The last chapter especially deals with spirituality and the use of psychedelics.One great quality of this book is that it is highly objective and although it includes some of Hoffman's beliefs it carefully gives both sides of the story. It basically recommends LSD only for medical or careful psychological use under professional guidance, but gives enough information and insight as to the nature of the drug, that you are free to form your own opinion.I highly reccommend this book since it so carefully covers all aspects of LSD and other psychedelics. This may be of interest to those with or without a firm understanding of chemistry

This book is downright incredible, from the actual practice of science to the insights on life. It contains many stories involving real people like Aldous Huxley, with whom Hoffman developed a close friendship. Many of the topics are magically real; Albert Hoffman dexterously paints an exceptionally realistic setting of Sandoz Laboratories, which is intimately invaded by something literally too strange to believe - the discovery of LSD-25, an entheogenic compound originally intended as an ecbolic drug to assist women labouring in childbirth, and which was accidentally found to have psychoactive properties (in quantities an order of magnitude LOWER than had ever been expected or experienced before in human history). Hoffman lovingly describes his highly-skilled laboratory work, and the ensuing adventures which propelled him to heights and depths of grandness and indignity he never truly expected of himself. I would expect that after reading this book many Hoffman fans will better-understand and so more enjoy the celebration of "Bicycle Day" on April 19th. An absolutely stunning, and eye-opening book, in which the author attempts to relate their knowledge and experience for everyone's benefit. Absolutely astounding, and fantastically eye-opening and informative.

This is a great book that delves into the science, spirituality and sociological implications of LSD and other psychedelics by the man who invented the drug. Hoffman is a remarkable man with some great insights. He also describes his encounters with other well-known individuals, as well as the sad fate of his drug. LSD was a lost opportunity, but perhaps still holds some hope as a drug of the future.

I purchased this book as part of a 30 Days of Pride Book Review project. The following is that review:After locking lips with a girl called Anastasia at a Global Young Leaders of the World camp, Leila Azadi returns to Armstead Academy as a Persian scaredy-cat. Even English class makes her anxious these days. She began to notice things she hadn't before… that she was different, and not just as an Iranian-American amongst a sea of white faces, white teeth, and white fences. She was definitely not ready to confess her lady loving ways and face the possible consequences from conservative Iranian-immigrant parents, and a school full of people she already felt enough glaring differences from. That's when the most beautiful girl she'd ever seen, Saskia Lansing, enrolled in her school and she knew she was in trouble.This was an enjoyable book.On its face, it's a straightforward example of a teen romance novel, right down to the twists and realizations that come about later in the story (which I won't spoil/reveal) but it is also a story about family, friendship, and feelings of otherness. I like the acknowledgment of people being more complicated than they first appeared to be to Leila and that she didn't actually know every side of anyone just like they didn't know every side of her. It made character interactions and motivations seem more genuine.I really enjoyed Leila’s narrative voice, as well. She had a smart, funny, and interesting perspective to offer to the unfolding drama in her life. When her internal monologue realized, “Oh. This bitch is crazy,” I laughed out loud…. Because I had just been thinking the same thing.It isn't the best book I've ever read by any means. Sometimes what Leila says or thinks one minute seems to be in direct conflict with what she says or does the next. The villain of the story is very over the top in her behavior...extreme in a way that points toward an actual personality disorder...and it might have been nice to see some more direct evidence of her motivations, even though some of it could be inferred from context. The writing was middle-school simplistic. The story was predictable. The characters were predictable.But it still had a sort of charm.Would I recommend it? I would recommend it to someone looking to read this story, if that makes sense. If someone is looking for a YA lesbian romance or looking for a story about struggling to come out because of cultural expectations. This book would come to mind for them. It isn't a spectacular life changing read, but it is a perfectly enjoyable YA romance.Okay, time to break out the project scales.On my Queer Counterculture Visibility Scale, which I invented to highlight books that represent some of the less visible sides of the LGBTQ+ community, I felt this book did really well. The point of view character was a young woman of color who identified as a Lesbian. There was a lot of rich white people in the story, but there was also tacit acknowledgement of that fact, and how it affected all the other characters that didn't fit into that category. It explored the unique challenges of coming out when there are cultural pressures on top of societal ones. It even talked about the difficulty of being “ethnically-ambiguous” and the awkward social interactions that happen because of it. I will add that another review I read complained that it didn't shine a very good light on bisexuals, though I'm not sure I would agree that the character she felt was representing bisexuality in the book, really was bisexual at all. But I'll leave that for the individual reader to decide for themselves. I'm giving it:4.5 out of 5 starsOn my Genre Expectation scale, which I am using to measure individual books next to the expectations I have for any book in that genre, it does fine. Not spectacular. Just fine. It seemed, to me, to be a good representation of the genre and delivered no more or less than what I was expecting from it.3 out of 5

This is my introduction to Sara Farizan's writing as part of the #ReadProud challenge for the Authors of Color category.First of all, can I say this is one of the best titles I've seen ever? It's clever. It's deep. It sets the tone for the entire piece.This is also one of my first true teen romances that I've read, where romance really is the main plot. I suspect my few, personal, microscopic critiques in regards to this book are due to my lack of knowledge about the genre.This was a fast read, and the audiobook was pretty enthusiastic. We follow Layla through the course of her school and her crush on an extremely toxic girl who was bad news from the get-go. I'm being cautious of names due to potential spoilers. I suspect some people fell for that girl's charm and then felt a huge plot twist when Layla puts together just how horrible this girl actually is.Although predictable with the eventual love interest (a much better choice though gross, smoking), we see justice. We see Iranian-immigrant parents struggle with their daughter's sexuality. We have an uplifting ending. We have people who want to come into their own. We have some moments where things are just charming.IMO, Tomas needs to be punched in the face. Repeatedly. He was the biggest flaw in the book and although he was created to capture the really catty, bitchy gay theatre men, it felt a bit on the extreme side. THAT SAID, although that was my opinion (him being the biggest flaw in the book), I'm new to romance. It's entirely possible that for a teen romance he's actually exactly what was/is necessary for success.The middle school play section seemed unnecessary and like it was designed for word count, however again, this is something that could be wrong.I'm giving this a 4-star. My personal opinions on some of the flaws aside, I think it's a very important book and I think it'd delight a lot of younger teenagers.

I'm not sure how to review this book. I was so excited to read TELL ME AGAIN HOW A CRUSH SHOULD FEEL, but sadly, this one really missed the mark for me.The premise was promising enough, and I think the love story between two of the characters was sweet, but didn't deliver quite the emotional punch that it could have. We also saw no closure with the villain, which made me feel like my Kindle version might be missing half the book. I kept scrolling after the last scene and was shocked to find myself at the end.I wish there'd been more of an actual story arc, as well as more detailed character arcs for Leila and Lisa. There was a LOT of room for emotional depth which was quite lacking from all characters, leaving them all a bit flat, and me a bit detached.TELL ME AGAIN HOW A CRUSH SHOULD FEEL had a great premise, and I enjoyed the cultural references, the awkwardness of first love and finding oneself, but as a whole, this story fell short for me.Not having to do with the author or the storyline itself, I am really disappointed in the lack of editing in this traditionally published book. Telling vs showing, short sentence structure usually reserved for building tension but used constantly in this book, miscellaneous punctuation mistakes, lack of character development, etc.; these are all things that a good editor should have caught. Ms. Farizan was done a disservice in this aspect of the process.My Rating: PG

You have examined it, gone to the pantry after looking at the prepared slides that came with your gift and taken samples of what is available there, then gone out into the kitchen, maybe the bathroom. taken dust samples from other rooms and looked at all of them. You were impressed with what you saw but in most cases that is all it was, impressed, you did not know what you had seen. Now it is time for Headstrom's book, this is the only place where it earns the five stars I have given it. You need to know where to go to get samples, you need to know how to draw those samples, and you need to know what you are looking at in these samples. Headstrom's book does this for many things. There is a caveat connected with all this. The book is old and even when new it needed an additional book to go along with it. The book is written for amateures and gives the parts of a microscope and lists a number of supplies to go with the microscope. Where does one get these supplies? Some can be procured from the manufacturer of the scope but most can not. Some are obsolete, some are unobtainable and some have been replaced by more modern equivalents. Catalogs from scientific supply houses may supply the answer, thus they they become a necessary adjunct to Headstrom's book. However this does not detract from his purpose, a little bit of taxonomy, a little bit of origins, and a lot of information. One of the big faults in his book is his lack of specifying the magnification necessary to be used when viewing the specimens. Even better would be a digression into the uses of different magnifications and what each is useful for in viewing the specimen. There are a lot of books out there, there may be one with this information. If so, anyone who knows of such, please let me know as well as others seeking this information.

This a good book for a beginner to have. The projects are well explained and easy to understand. The book is written at a middle school level. My 9 year old and I read a project each night. The introduction to the evolution of the microscope was very interesting. There is a complete list of things you should have as a science kit. That list was written years ago, now-a-days, if my daughter took this science kit to school, the school would be placed on lock down and she would be sent away to a juvenile detention center.

The book contain numerous "adventures" with a microscope, that is instructions how to deal with different biological objects and drawings of details to be looked for. The idea is very good, and gives the investigator a wide range of objects to be investigated. I like diagrammatic drawings, but this book needs a second edition with crisp illustrations, some arrows for critical details, and a few microphotos in color.The list of equipment and chemicals needed is OK, but the user will today face a problem to buy some of them, and for an inexperienced user detailed procedures would be helpful. Therefore, newbies ought to contact a club or active association for amateur and profesional microscopy, lead by professionals with the knowledge and authority to buy and handle chemicals and access to labs. Such associations exists in the US, UK and Germany - and some have local clubs arranging field excursions, where interesting material may be collected. This book was a gift to my grandson who is nine. His Mom is a teacher and reviewed the book after they received it. She said it is an excellent companion to the microscope which he received for a Christmas gift. It is practical and worthwhile for using the gift.

I haven't used a microscope in about 40 years. I needed a good basic technique book as a refresher. This is an older book that uses some preps I would not use today, but the technique sections are just what I was looking for.

Like so many other people, I recently acquired an Instant Pot and wanted to get a great cookbook to explore. HOW TO INSTANT POT by Daniel Shumski seemed like an interesting place to start. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed in the recipes I tried for this review.First, the good. There is a nice and thorough introduction that explains a lot about how to actually use the Instant Pot. If you have an Instant Pot, you know that the manual that comes with the machine is lacking. This makes up for that. The book is broken up into sections based on the function used (pressure cooker, slow cooker, steamer, etc.). The recipes are not just the basics, which appealed to me. Yes, items such as Meat and Potatoes Beef Stew and Quick Barbecue Pork Shoulder are here, but more “exotic” offerings such as Quick Chorizo and Tortilla Chip Chili and Gingered Sriracha Squash Soup are included, too. Most recipes call for ingredients that can be found at any grocery store. The color photos are lovely; just know that there was not a picture for every recipe.Now, the bad. I picked out several recipes to try and made them exactly as written.Lickety Split Whte rice (p.213) I made the basic recipe that is more about technique than ingredients. The rice came out perfectly cooked, though too salty for my taste, and this is now my go-to way to cook white rice.Thai-Spiced Beef Stew (p.34) I expected this stew to be thick, rich, and full of spicy Thai curry flavor. Instead, it came out very soupy thin and bland. It needs much more curry paste, some veggies to fill it out, and maybe a bit of sugar to balance out the flavors. We did not eat the leftovers.Curried Acorn Squash Soup (p.83) First of all, acorn squash is difficult to peel; use butternut squash instead. This needed much more seasoning than called for, and it still tasted flat. Leftovers were equally disappointing and not memorable.Marvelous Basil-Parmesan Meatballs (p.123) I had higher hopes at the onset of making this. However, as I assembled the meatballs, I feared that the meat mixture would be too wet and not keep the meatball’s shape. I was correct, and the meatballs came apart when touched with the spoon. They had an unappealing greenish cast (due to the pesto) and too much bread crumbs, which led to a mushy texture that was unpleasant. In addition, all of the oil from the pesto made gross greasy puddles. Overall, the flavor was ok, but too high in fat to be worth it. We did not eat the leftovers.There were other recipes that I marked to make, but after three failures out of three tries, I decided not to spend any more money.I give HOW TO INSTANT POT 3 stars for the information about the machine but only 1 star for the recipes. I cannot recommend this cookbook.I received an ARC of this title through NetGalley and voluntarily shared my thoughts here.

I have a Ph.D. in economics, undergraduate training in electrical engineering, and I can read, write and speak Mandarin Chinese. In spite of all of the above, I have been a total failure at cooking. My friends make fun of me because of it. I finally decided to take a shot at the Instant Pot. The instructions that come with the unit are lacking for someone like me. As one who has spent years in China and Taiwan, I routinely worked my way through Chinglish and often translated documents. That isn’t the problem. The English in the documents is fine, but it is a bit of an uphill climb for a total rookie like me to jump into the Instant Pot. I ordered six different cookbooks looking for the magic bridge, most lacking photos and detailed directions and leaving me with much anxiety. This is the only one that filled that void. It explains EVERYTHING about the unit for people like me. Thank you, Mr. Shumski!

This startling Canadian innovation is reinventing how we cook. It combines the functions of a covered pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, yoghurt maker, steamer, and other functions like sautéing and food warming.With “How To Instant Pot” from Daniel Shumski, author of “Will It Skillet?” and “Will It Waffle?“, you can learn how to use the various functions, what the buttons mean, how to decipher the LCD screen, how to convert your recipes, and everything else you need to know about using the Instant Pot.Rather than arranging the book by recipe type, this book is arranged by function. Each function of the Instant Pot, except the sautéing and warming functions, have their own chapters with recipes and instructions.With Chapter 1 “Instant Pot Basics” you get the lowdown on the basic functions for the Instant Pot. The chapter begins with a list of included equipment and optional accessories with a description of each.Setting up your pot includes what you need to make your first test run, or for reassembling after cleaning. Next is a section covering function and button overviews. This is where you find out what each button means, the preset buttons, the function buttons, and the modifying buttons. The explanation of how to sauté comes next, discussing timing, and heat settings. Uses for the sauté setting and things to know are also included. The keyboard function information is next. Very straightforward information about the temperatures related to the “Keep Warm” function including when and when not to use it.Next, comes how to speak “Instant Pot” which explains how to decipher the LCD readout field on the front of your machine. Afterwards is a few pages on converting recipes to the Instant Pot, with tips on changing a recipe from a slow cooker to a pressure cooker. Lastly is how to clean the machine, some Instant Pot tips and frequently asked questions, with a list of all the recipes included in the book which can be doubled.Chapter 2 explains the “Pressure Cooker” functions, with recipes of course. This section explains how the pressure cooker works and how pressure cooker recipes work. It then discusses what is different about pressure cooker recipes, the benefits of natural release versus quick release at the end of your cooking cycle, and the difference between an Instant Pot and other pressure cookers.For the novice and experienced cooks alike there are pressure cooker tips and potential pitfalls explained. For instance, too much liquid, too little liquid, recipe timing, high altitude modifications, and of course the extremely important pressure cooker safety. Finishing up with pressure cooking tips and tidbits, the recipes then follow.Disappointingly the recipes do not all include a picture of each dish. What pictures they do have are full-page full-colour and beautifully arranged, but there are few. The recipes each include a brief introduction, the total time, active time, number of servings, as well as very clear instructions. The first recipe I read “Beef Barbacoa Tacos” even went so far as to warn to be careful because steam will whoosh up when adding the sauce. The instructions on setting the Instant Pot up once the initial prep work has been completed was very detailed, explaining each setting and how to set the time correctly. The instructions then go on to explain how to cycle down at the end of cooking, how you’ll know when the pressure has been released and even includes how long the food will last in the fridge. I couldn’t be happier with the level of detail in these recipes.Several of the recipes are marked “Master Method”, which kind of confused me at first. There was no explanation of what “Master Method” meant. Upon further review, I noticed that these were the base recipes for where there were several options to make different flavours. The first recipe I encountered labelled “Master Method” was the “Beef and Butternut Squash Stew”. This recipe was the base recipe for creating all of the variations which followed like the “Thai Spiced Beef Stew”, the “Meat and Potatoes Beef Stew” etc.Throughout the book, there are pages called “Quick Fix” which give quick tips for creating many recipes which will be used in other recipes, like “Faux-Roasted Garlic” and “Caramelized Onions” etc. I love these kinds of tips and tricks, they add so much value to a cookbook.With Chapter 3 the “Slow Cooker” function is explained for the Instant Pot. This chapter explains the value of using the slow cooker feature, temperature, and timing, and converting traditional oven-based recipes to slow cooker as well as slow cooker tips and pitfalls. Then it’s onto the recipes. As with most slow cooker recipes, they are very straightforward, but one of the advantages of the Instant Pot is that you can do things like thickening your sauce using the sauté function afterwards. As with the previous chapter, there are several recipes with variations on a Master Method, and additional tips for flavouring or serving throughout. There is even a “Quick Fix” page with an “Easy Cheese Fondue”.Chapter 4 is a very short one because I guess the “Rice Maker” function doesn’t really really need a lot of explanation. It does explain the rice cycle temperature and timing etc. and includes a discussion on the rice to water ratio and other measurements. The first recipe, “Lickety-Split White Rice”, is the Master Method with three variations in flavour. Other rice recipes include “Thai-Style Sticky Rice”, “Brown Rice with Sesame Oil”, and “Wholesome Wild Rice with Golden Raisins”.The “Yogurt Maker” function is described in Chapter 5. It too was short and sweet since yoghurt is just a matter of imagination to create the flavour variations. The beginning of the chapter discusses what the real yoghurt function does, and yoghurt making basics. It goes on to describe making yoghurt in containers, as well as yoghurt experimentation and troubleshooting. The simple homemade plain yoghurt is a Master Method with variations for Greek yoghurt and nonfat yoghurt. The “Do-It-Yourself Ricotta” is also covered with various flavour options. The Quick Fix” page for this chapter gives you a “Crème Fraîche” recipe. The rest of the chapter finishes up with savoury yoghurt options and sweetened yoghurt each with its own flavour variations. The last recipe is a “Mango and Pomegranate Parfait” made with the homemade Greek yoghurt variation. It does look delicious.The “Steamer” function is covered in Chapter 6. This section explains what’s different about this cycle, the valve positioning, quick release, and other uses for the steamer. Recipes in this chapter include the “Lemon Thyme Steamed Shrimp”, “Sweet Potatoes with Parsley and Balsamic Vinegar”, and more, ending with “Simply Steamed Baby Carrots” and “Mixed Vegetables”, both with several flavour variations.Great For Experienced And Novice Instant Pot UsersAre you a veteran Instant Pot user and need some new recipes? I've been using this book since I was a bride 47 years ago. My original copy finally wore out. So I ordered a new one. The recipes are great tasting, well written and easy to follow. The book is divided by holidays and provides a variety of recipes made in Jewish kitchens throughout the world. In the preface of each chapter, informative text provides insight into the way traditional foods were cooked in different areas of the world.I still make my grandmother's matzo ball soup, her gefilte fish and her chopped liver. But everything else I serve comes from the favorite recipes I discovered in Joan Nathan's lovely book.

For those readers who have lost their Mother's or Bubba's recipes The Joan Nathen Holiday Kitchen is a Godsend. Mrs. Nathen writes more than recipes. She gives us history and why the items work for the holiday. When you are at your wits end trying to put together a holiday meal this is the cookbook you will reach for over and over again.I liked the book so much I sent copies to all my kids so they would not be caught without the tools to put out a great Passover meal. There are several recipes just for haroset. The recipe for Homentashen is easy as is the one for rugala. You will find recipes for fish when you don't want meat. I am giving this book as a gift to a non-Jewish friend. My copy was also given to me as a gift. It should be shared just this way. Love the many different options, including Eastern European, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern dishes. Emily King, author of “The Hundredth Queen,” displays her talents in this first entry to her series. While her descriptions and use of words are her strength, other elements of the book work against her. Here's a quick rundown, without spoilers:THE PLOT – Kalinda, a member of the Sisterhood, is chosen by the current Rajah as his hundredth wife.Proving yourself in battle is necessary, both in the Sisterhood and at the palace. Everyone vies to be elevated, higher ranks determined by victory in the ring.Everything about this story screams predictability. Unfortunately, the author never recognizes the danger and continues to steer the reader in that direction. It is obvious that Kalinda will have feelings for the young soldier, Deven, just as it is obvious he feels the same way. What makes little sense is that Deven understands the world as it is, yet immediately breaks convention and is willing to risk his life by granting favors to Kalinda. The rules dictating death to a queen who is unfaithful never causes Kalinda to waiver from her infatuation with Deven. Once in the palace, Kalinda faces the expected danger from her Sisterhood rival Natesa as well as Lakia, first among the Rajah’s wives.THE WRITING – This is the author’s five-star strength. The description is consistent, and reflects a time of long ago. Ms. King’s elegant style deftly describes the action, weaving pictures that effortlessly wrap the reader in the story.THE WORLD – One wishes for more details describing Kalinda’s world of religion and male dominance. Some of the inconsistencies concerning the relationship between herself and Deven might have made more sense, but defining the culture never gets past a few scrapes off the surface. While the action is wonderfully explained, I wished to learn more about the social mores. Most of what we glean, however, comes in bits and dribbles inserted when something happens and readers must know why. While there was enough to keep me interested, I wished for more.IN CASE YOU WANTED TO KNOW – Ms. King steers away from using any sort of foul language, and you could read this story to a child without worry. Sex is non-existent, and though sexual tension is present, nothing is written that would make you blush.OVERALL – The writing is strong, and almost makes one forget that the plot is unremarkable. Images of The Hunger Games flit constantly, casting a pall over the originality of the tale. While Kalinda’s character is best defined, many of the others are one-dimensional, including Natesa, Deven, and Lakia. Motivations are reduced to one reason rather than a myriad of choices, which lessens the reader’s engagement. I did find Ms. King’s use of words and consistency of style to be enough to keep me reading. However, this is a three-and-a-half star book at best, and though the talented description of the action is strong, the lack of developed characters prevent the total ranking from reaching four.

At around 60% into this book, I had to revisit Amazon and Goodreads to make sure I was reading the right book. This book has such high ratings and received so much praise but I didn't enjoy it. I felt that it wasn't successful as a historical fiction and it was predictable as a romance. That said, I don't think it was terrible, just... an average romance novel. I think my disappointment came because it has such a high rating that I was expecting something of better quality - if it hadn't been on that pedestal, I think it would have been acceptably okay for the genre.While several reviews have criticized world building, I thought that was passable. There wasn't anything of Sumerian mythology beyond the names of the gods - everything was made up to suit the plot. So if you think, as I thought, that the story would build on what we know of the mythology to create its plot, you'll be disappointed. The myth underlying the story wasn't clearly told - important parts would be told just before they helped the story so that it felt like the author was making it up as she went along but eventually I understood it. There were a few other things that kept taking me out of the story, namely the use of books. At a time when parchment would have been very expensive and rare, if it existed at all, the main character has a sketchbook, ordinary soldiers keep diaries, etc. The guest room has a book case of books that can be slammed shut - no one uses scrolls in this place.Several reviews have also complained about characters being undeveloped. I don't know - they weren't completely one dimensional - they had positive and negative characteristics... there were some incomplete and inconsistent backstories but then, the story is told from one character's point of view so of course she doesn't know everything. Plus, maybe the characters were really meant to be that careless, annoying and stupid.There were no plot twists - I figured things out chapters before they were revealed and I'm not one of those intuitive geniuses who always figures it out. I like to let the story unfold. This one was just so predictable that there were no surprises.So I can't really recommend this book and I definitely won't be reading on, but I didn't think it was any worse than the average romance novel... just not any better either.

In my opinion, plant-based diet is the best way to lose weight and maintain your health. I continue to perform this diet for 2 weeks already and I feel much better. This cookbook book has every chance of becoming my favorite. The choice of dishes is chic, I'm not exaggerating, I also liked that there are such beautiful photos every dish.

I particularly liked the recipes that went with this book and the way it gradually introduced you to veganism. That said, there were limited recipe choices or information on substitutions for non vegan recipes.

I haven't tried any recipes yet (just got book 2 days ago). The reason for the 3 stars is. One of the recipes says it's on page 24 when in fact it's on page 26 & none of the pics of the finished food are in color. You'd think you would want to show that. I'll update my review once I make some of the recipes

I have to say that when I heard Jamie Begley was pairing Evie and King, I was not impressed or interested. Honestly, I think a lot of her fans would agree when I say that I didn't see a future, as in a HEA, for the club girls. Although I did enjoy Sex Piston's story, I didn't feel it was in the same context as Beth's, Winter's, and Lily's stories. I will say I like Evie a heck of a lot more than the other club girls. Now with saying all this, King is phenomenal! Like Shade, it is a game changer in so many ways! I see changes coming for this series and I really look forward to them. Don't get me wrong, the core of this series, that the Last Riders are a family, hopefully won't change. However, as with life, as time goes on things will move on and change as well. Now about the story--King will surprise you. You get the chemistry you expect from this series as well as some history about some of the players. I loved this. You really get to know Evie and her reasons for living the way she does. All those glimpses of softness and sadness we got of Evie in other stories are all explained here. You also see what has been happening in the other couple's lives. You get more of Willa, Penni, Lucky and Jackal which I loved. There are some new characters introduced which 'stirs the pot' so to speak! As for King--well let's just say he lays it out for Evie. He is very blunt in his assessment of the Last Riders. Whether you agree or not with King's harsh words, you do have to realize that all of the Last Riders will do like Evie eventually does and make decisions about the way their life is going. Like I said before, game changer in every sense!!! So, if you have been thinking of passing this one up, DON'T. You need to read it to understand the direction this series is taking. You won't be disappointed.

I was intrigued by King while reading Teased and Tainted. He definitely is an anti-hero, but once the mystery was solved of what the tie-in was between King, Vida, and Sawyer I wasn’t sure how I felt about him. He definitely has the anti-hero thing going on, that was for sure. As I read the first part of King’s story, I gotta say he did not impress me at freaking all. In fact, his behavior made me think “Forget alpha-hole, this guy is a freaking alphapr&#k and a pretentious one at that.” Every decision he made from the second he found out about Callie all those years ago was a stupid one. Then to decide to play Daddy and go head to head with Shade and the Last Riders- what an idiot.For someone in his line of business and with his upbringing and history, I couldn’t believe how he kept continually misjudging not only Evie but everyone else as well. He kept underestimating the people he considered his adversaries and overestimating himself. He redeems himself in the end, but he’ll never be a favorite.Evie absolutely saved this book. As we learn her history so much is made clear as to why she’s with the Last Riders and the loyalty they all have for her. She’s tough, smart, and resilient which are all qualities I admire in a heroine.As unimpressed as I was with King at first, he and Evie worked together and they had some serious chemistry. Both fought their feelings and it was a rough row to hoe at times, but I found myself rooting for them.With Digger in jail, the threats came from different sources both in Queen City and from Treepoint. I did find myself surprised that one particular threat wasn’t taken care of immediately after a particular incident. It seemed out of character for the Last Riders, particularly Shade, but King too. That was a huge disappointment for me. I did love all the time spent with the MC and the epilogue was unbelievably sweet. Just finished. Spent sleepless night because I just can't stop myself from going through chapters. Jamie really rocked again.At the start King really needed some slaps on the face. Like wake up call. He though he knew whats better for Lily. And that really not Shade. I would have loved to point to him, that everytime from when Lily was young, his decisions always were so not good for her. And he should let her decide on her own. And so at first King was annoyingly arogant in his perception of Evie, the rest of The Last Rides and in general. But King really starts to grow on you through the book. And that part would be thanks to Evie. She opens that part of him he closed off from losing his sister and even earlier. So no one could touch him through his walls. Evie, being strong and loyal woman with her own demons, she is fighting for years, you just can't help but love her from the start. And later when I learned that for her demons are responsible her own sister, Brooke, it break my heart that so close person, who should be always on your side an supporting you, can so cruelly act. And than Brooke letting her malicious side to play again...I really hope in the next book we will be able to see Shade "playing", teaching her what happens to people who try to hurt his most precious person in the world.What cracked me that King joined The Scared s***less for Sex Piston and her crew club. LOL.Train & Killyama. Train acting scared and then trying to talk with her. Again. And Killyama keeping ignoring him. Again. I so wish to know what happened between them. That pair really need a book together.Another hilarious pair is: Penni&Jackal. You just can't help and not laugh all the time when they end up having conversation. I rereaded those scenes a couple of times. Jackal really need someone like Penni. Who don't afraid to put him in his plase. They would be a great couple. Praying for their book.And fascination in this book didn't ending here. There are more happenings. So grab your copy and find out about them. You don't gonna regret it.
