WOW! I was hooked from page one of this book!! L.J. Shen is so witty and hilarious -it's impossible NOT to love her style of writing! I found myself actually laughing out loud multiple times between her pop culture humor and sparkling internal monologue. Blaire is a firecracker... and a slacker... such a contradiction and so perfectly meshed together! I loved her. And I was completely expecting Ty to be exactly like Vicious (from Sinners of Saint, the first book I read of hers). I find authors usually stick to one archetype of male leads.... but Ty was something else entirely!! Sweet and salty and oh so perfect!! I can't recommend this book enough. I'll definitely read it again. If you're on kindle unlimited - this is a NO BRAINER!!! If you're not - it's worth the money!!

I'll tell you why only 3 stats. Because I read it AFTER the Sinners of Saint. The leaps and bounds Shen made on her writting are amazing. I had issues with the time jumps and pacing, the fact that was only a single POV (from h's view) and the end of the book.I don't like single POV's and this book is my exhibit A. Ty is such a complicated, damaged, lovable, sexy guy and not have his POV, his thoughts and his reasons behind his actions was a crime. I had no idea what's going on in his head and I didn't like that one bit.The book ending was sudden. Very. Sudden. After the break up it took them a page (tha last one) to reconsile and get back together and The End. WTF?? Where is my HEA?? I know they are together but are there issues forgotten or fogiven or both?Anywho, I believe if I read it before her other books my rate would have been different but we'll never know.L.J.Shen is still one of my favorite authors and I can see how much her writting has changed. For at least that, I do not regret reading Tyed cause that's what brought me Vicious, Ruckus and the rest of the guys.An OK read.

3-3.5 stars. Blaire isn't sure where her future is going. She hasn't found anything that clicks with her or makes her want to pursue more in that direction. Mostly she feels inadequate compared to her lingerie model twin sister who is rich and famous. In the meantime, she's been given a journalism assignment about MMA fighters, a topic that Blaire is very unfamiliar with, but has no choice but to complete. She meets Tyler Wilder, one of the fighters, and immediately sparks begin to fly.I liked Blaire's sense of humor and general personality, but her voice also came off rather immature frequently and made her sound more like a teenager at times. For someone who was fairly open-minded, she surprised me with how stubborn she could be when Tyler would try to prove to her that he was serious about liking her. Tyler himself was a bit of an alpha male and I liked him overall, but there were times I expected him to be more alpha and he wasn't. I liked the gentler side of him with Blaire but then sometimes I couldn't see what he saw in Blaire. It's a cute story overall, but lacked a bit of conviction for me to want to root harder for the characters due to Blaire's wishy-washiness.

I have mixed feeling about this book. It's very easy to get immersed into the story immediately and it's written well, actually it's written well enough but I HATE authors who overuse comments in brackets, it annoys me to distraction!I like Blaine even though the self pity was getting annoying "Boring Blaine" her own nickname especially with a SUPERMODEL twin sister *insert eye roll*, cliche' much? Apart from the overuse of brackets and the self pity I really like Ty and Barbie (Ty's nickname for Blaine) together as a couple and wish the author could have developed the story better and more thoroughly than she did, as it potentially could have been an OUTSTANDING book. The interest for me is in the couple and what makes them - them and unique to each other, that right there was (IMO) touched upon but could have been a very memorable set of characters. The hardships that shaped Ty and his aggression were skimmed which is why this book is an okay read but will not feature in my re-read list, such a shame.I don't like Shane and Izzy, Blaine's twin sister. One minute we're lead to believe that Shane is in love with Blaine and after thwarting his advances from hisr BBF he suddenly has/had a thing for Izzy. WTF! I won't continue on with this story, if however this book had been a duet I would have loved to have seen the story deveolop, especially as the HEA is all of 1 and a bit pages with NO epilogue. Very unsatisfying end. A big opportunity missed in my view but I wish the author luck for the future.

I know his ministry is targeted towards men but he still speaks to me (a black woman). My sister mentioned to me that Wilson had a book that was soon to be released. I came on Amazon over a month ago just to read the book listing. I don't even know how it happened but I must have clicked purchase on accident because before I knew it, there was a message thanking me for my preorder. I almost cancelled the order but felt compelled to keep the order. I am a life coach and mentor for teens both male and female. I also have a younger brother and a father that I still struggle to relate to and understand. On top of all of that, I generally don't know how to relate to men at all [romantically]. I am a daddy's girl who has a father that really isn't the daddy's girl type. A lot of father's don't understand that they frame how their daughters will relate to men. You are our 1st love and often our 1st heartbreak (it goes without saying... But not in a sexual or romantic way). The way that this is handled will be with us in every relationship, even our relationship with God. I thought reading Wilson's book would feel like reading someone else's mail but his words are so engaging that I had to force myself to not finish it in one day and let what I have read so far unfold in me before moving on. This book has been such a healing and eye opening experience for me. I have learned more about my brother and dad and even myself from this book. I could relate to Wilson's quest for his father's love and approval and I became very aware through reading this book from his POV that we feel much the same, we just express our emotions differently. Maybe after thoughtfully and prayerfully reading this book, I will overcome my fear of relationships and finally have the privilege of having one. If you're wondering if you should get this book... Yes!!! You should and grab a few extra copies for someone else who may need to cry like a man.I have the Kindle book but I'm getting hard copies for my dad and brother and a few for my male clients as well.

I have been waiting for this book to release since I saw on Eshon Burgundy's Instagram a copy of it. This was an excellent read. There were many things I could relate to as a young black man. There were also many things I couldn't relate to but that's ok. I was was the white sheep compared to my brother, the black sheep. Though raised in a Christian home and still an active believer there are things that I missed because of cultural barriers. It's important to know that Christ penetrates all cultural barriers even when we can't see it. This books depicts a picture of turmoil though I haven't experience to that extent I can resonate with as a man. I believe Mr. Wilson paints a portrait of the struggle that many men face and too prideful to admit publicly. To show vulnerability is weakness in many eyes. Thankfully, Jesus identifies with our struggles and will wear the scars of our vulnerability, shame, and defeat forever. Mr. Wilson gave us just a glimpse of that saving power and for that I say thank you.

I've been waiting three months for this book. I've been following Mr. Jason Wilson on social media with his work with CATTA for about a year.  As a mother of an only son, I want to have a better understanding of my husband and the men in my life. EQ (Emotional Intelligence) and the ability to verbally share feelings are important skillsets we desire in our son and our selves. I received the book today and read the entire thing. Mr. Jason shares his life story and how he overcame his struggles with God on his side through forgiveness, redemption, grace, serving others, loving hard, and being a lion and a lamb. Get some tissues out for many joyful and challenging moments shared. I will be sharing this with my husband and family. I’m going to give my boy and husband extra hugs tonight. God is good and so faithful!

There is no reason that Jason Wilson should be such an incredible influence for good today, except for the grace of God, his wife, and other people who did not give up on the good inside him, sometimes buried deep. For the longest time he walked his own path - the one that looked like it would get him what he needed and to where he wanted to go. He did not have the examples he needed. He did not have the love he needed, that we all need. But life experiences and people taught him. What he does today with youth is amazing and he is a shining example. I have cried watching some of The Cave of Adullam videos. If I had to describe this book in one word, that word would be "epic." I look forward to the movie! Thank you, Jason Wilson, for stepping up, finding your true nature, and for teaching young men and boys true strength!

There is an internal battle within our selves and this book helps me see the errors of my upbringing and false thoughts and ideals of masculinity has caused me so much unnecessary pain. Thank you Mr. Wilson it’s time I have a deep conversation with me myself and I.

I thank the LORD for using Jason Wilson. This book was so transparent. It captures how a life saturated with torment and conflict can be malleable in the hands of the Almighty Father. The Good News of the Messiah brings liberation to the soul. I was tearful many times in every chapter, amazed at the grace of GOD. This book has encouraged me to not only become more intimate with my Heavenly Father, but to appreciate my earthly, godly father, & honor my mother. It also helped me look at insecurities within, so that I can love my wife better and lead her heart, as well the hearts of our sons. Glory to Yahweh!!! May He continue to lead you, Jason Wilson. I'm eager for your next projects!!!!!!!!

While this book is an excellent read for everyone, I highly recommend it to any man who has a desire to free himself from the societal definition of masculinity. This book is awesome.

This is a follow up on the author's first 1930s novel, The Girl Who Knew Too Much. The heroine is Adelaide Blake-Brockton and the hero is Jake Truett. Raina, the Enright's secretary from the first novel, returns in this novel as a PI in Burning Cove. Luther Pell, the night club owner, also returns.Adelaide starts out rather meek but gains strength and confidence as the novel progresses. The first 40% is slow but the pace picks up after that and the novel becomes more interesting. Jake's past problems and Adelaide's intersect and, while spending time together investigating their past problems, they discover a mutual attraction as well as the mutual villains who are trying to kill them.While not in the top tier of her Amanda Quick novels, I did like this book. I feel that, with era change from 19th century to early 20th century, the author is still finding her feet in this new era. It's going to seem a little crazy, but I suggest that the author watch lots of old black and white movies (which are available from various internet streaming sites) for research on women's roles and 30s witty banter for her new time period.I spent my teen years in the San Francisco Bay Area watching Dialing For Dollars on KTVU out of Oakland's Jack London Square. It ran old movies in the mornings and afternoons, combined with a game involving Bay Area phone books + telephone numbers in which viewers who knew what movie was currently playing could win small amounts of money. It was during those days that my sister and I first saw all the classic old black and white movies, including Random Harvest, It Happened One Night, Bringing Up Baby, the Marx Brothers movies, Fred Astaire movies, Cary Grant movies, Pride and Prejudice (with Laurence Olivier as Darcy), and so many others. There were lots of good roles for strong women in many of the movies. We loved watching them. To this day I know more about old movies and their stars from before I was born than about current movies and stars.I rated this 4 stars because it is not quite as good as some of her older books (which are great favorites of mine) but getting closer. I am eagerly awaiting her next book in this new time period.

As always Ms. Q is technically correct which is why I'm giving this three stars. Otherwise I'm disappointed. Where is the trademark JAK wit and clever dialog? This dialog was boring and the characters leaned toward cardboard. I know it's supposed to be set in the 20s but other than a few vague references it could be any time. I'm a long time fan and I miss the things that made her books an automatic purchase. I realize authors need to grow and stretch, but this seems to be going in the wrong direction. Makes me very sad, but I might start waiting for the library copy.

I have long been a fan of Amanda Quick (pen name for Jayne Ann Krentz ) and the historicalfiction she writes. "The Other Lady Vanishes" is a new setting for her, California in the 30's. This novel is about several women with secrets in their past they have good reason to hide. And as usual there are the men who love them and would willingly give up their lives to protect them. The plot revolves around a secret drug called Daydream with hallucinogenic properties and some unscrupulous men who are wanting to control , produce and market the drug at the expense of the novel's heroines.This book is a page turner that kept me up all night trying to finish it. And just when I thought it was all done, the mystery was solved and everyone was going to get their happily ever after, Amanda Quick writes in a "GOTCHA!" surprise at the end. Wow! If you like mystery and romance novels that keep you guessing until the last page, read "The Other Lady Vanishes" You won`t be disappointed!

Like most other reviewers, I've read almost all the author's books, in all her incarnations. This is the first one where the ahem, love scenes, seem obtrusive. It felt almost awkward to go into the intimate details here. JAKAQJC wrote a well-crafted mystery that kept moving. I liked the characters and their back stories, but PLEASE, no more dead parents, at least for a while. I've also become so well-trained that i have come to expect stories to end abruptly. The end of the book could have ended at any one if the last four or five chapters, but instead came to a surprising denouement. Very enjoyable. Note: I think the crime boss is a descendent of one from an earlier novel, one who emigrated to San Francisco.

Maybe a five star but I will have to think about it some more....This is the second book by Ms Quick / aka Jayne Ann Krentz set in the 1930s with a HOLLYWOOD / BURNING COVE tie in. I liked this book better than the first one. I think the characters were developed better and I could relate to them a little more. Ms Quick did not spend so much time dealing with fashion / dress or establishing this was the 1930s but got into an interesting story line / plot right away.As a matter of fact I did not realize the book was in the 1930s pre-WW2 until midway in the book. She established the characters early in the story so you could care about them and want to know what was happening. MS Quick brought in the characters from the first book Oliver and Irene as secondary support characters ( I barely remember the first book...it was not memorable.) I am interested to see if MS Quick gives Luther Pell and Rinna Kirk there own story in the future... I found them to be interesting.There were some plot holes in the story but they did get explained during the coarse of the book. For example if I was going to hide out ... I would never pick an area I had vacationed in or had any connection with... I would move to an entirely different part of the country.... but that was just me. Then again I would never trust the jerk who was her first husband as I am not a trusting soul... and I do not have rich parents ... Why is everyone rich in modern fiction?I read this book in less than 24 hours but will probably re read the book soon as that is my habit. It was enjoyable and will recommend it to my friends for a summer mystery read....NONNIE
