I believe it's best to state if there is any bias a reviewer might have up front so let me tell you that yes, I do have a bias. I have communicated with Dr. Habermas and he is an excellent friend and help through struggles of doubt. Dr. Habermas does not just write this out abstractly. He really lives it. Every reply I've got from him has led me to the belief that he truly does care about me and connect with me. When I meet Christians who are doubting, I'm always eager to point out Dr. Habermas's materials.This one will not disappoint. What I like about Habermas's style is that he doesn't speak in the heavy philosophical or apologetic language. Now I love both of those fields deeply, but I wonder about people who seem to speak exclusively in those fields. I wonder if a lot of people just try to use fancy terminology to make themselves look better. Dr. Habermas does not make me wonder about that. This is the kind of advice he'd give if he sat down to talk with you at Starbucks. I've heard Dr. Habermas speak a number of times on this topic before and I could practically hear his voice reading the passages.Also, it works. That's what's really important. Dr. Habermas has helped me immensely with self-doubt mainly and he has used the principles taught in this book. I also liked how he had in this one a chapter on differences amongst Christians. I have frequently been in Christian circles where I am the lone outsider with a different view, always within the pale of orthodoxy of course. This can be a hard one, but Dr. Habermas explains it well.Dr. Habermas also distinguishes between the kinds of doubts and how to deal with each of them. He shows how the most common kind he deals with when people come to him is emotional doubt. That has been my case as well when I'm dealing with some sort of doubt. There can be a factual kernel somewhere, but the flower that has come up is essentially emotional. Dr. Habermas would tell you that you need to know where your emotions get off. They're not bad things, but they're not meant to control you.Dr. Habermas is realistic about apologetics also. When I started the field, I had this delusion that if you just went out there and gave the answers, people would convert. That delusion doesn't last long. It also doesn't work when we argue with ourselves and have the "What if?" questions. Habermas's approach is that the "What if" questions are the problems. They can be anything and they don't usually have a factual basis and could be used to explain away anything or to refuse believing anything.I think all Christians should learn the lessons that Habermas speaks of in this book. Not only would we be helping ourselves, but maybe if we opened the doors of fellowship in our churches and were able to show the dark sides we're experiencing as well as the light, maybe we'd grow stronger together in Christ and be able to do more for him.

We are reminded that younger believers are less settled in their beliefs and struggle with doubt more.Habermas also spends considerable time on the bickering between the various traditions. His work on this issues is worth the price of the book alone. This is one of those books that will reinforce what you do know and assist your struggle with what you don't. You will not be disappointed.

I ordered this book while going through a bout of doubt both about my current girlfriend and my faith (strange how some things are linked at times). Of course, since I live in Switzerland, the book took its time to arrive, and by the time I read it, my doubts had been blown away like the clouds on a windy day - by a four-hour phone call with my girlfriend. Previously, they had been exacerbated by reading the book "What is Atheism" by Douglas Krueger, to the point where I was wondering what would happen if I renounced my faith.When the sharpest doubt subsided (the "O boy, he is intelligent and logical and convincing and here I thought it was all true, what do I do now) I realized that while I still wanted to reread Krueger's book and check his arguments against those of apologists (dealing with factual doubt), any decision as to my beliefs should be made with a level head and not while in a panicked frenzy (i.e. while suffering from emotional doubt).The mere fact of doubting something does not mean it's necessarily wrong, and it would be foolish to change convictions every time someone rattles you with his or her arguments. (As reviews demonstrate, neither Atheists nor Christians seem to do that.) This is the main point Dr. Habermas is making, and his goal is clearly to lead any doubting Christian to the point where he or she can take a step back, take a look at the whole picture, and decide rationally and calmly on the course to be taken. It therefore seems to me that Bill Hays mistook Dr. Habermas' main thrust for a recommendation to exercise blind faith. Not so! Dr. Habermas encourages Christians to read apologetic books to counter factual doubts instead of simply using psychological tricks to push them aside; where he urges Christians not to question is in the area of emotional doubt, where questions frequently are "what ifs" of the destructive kind. To give an example: the question "What if I had married a more beautiful woman?" is not only destructive to your marriage, it tends to preoccupy your mind and preclude a levelheaded assessment of your wife's true qualities. The same is true for questions of the type "What if God does not exist despite what I factually know?" Rarely does anything positive come of them. (If the question is reduced to "What if God does not exist?" or "What facts are there about God's existence?", I believe it can lead to a very positive outcome.)In fine, Dr. Habermas has written a clear, logical assessment of doubt (it clicks very nicely with what I've experienced), throwing aside many popular misconceptions in the process. The reason I do not give it five stars is that I have not yet been in the position to apply his principles (I'm on a surprisingly long doubt-free period) and therefore cannot evaluate them. (Another reason is that I dislike the free-flowing margin - looks sloppy - but that's not his fault.) All in all I'd recommend this book to people who are worrying about their faith; to others who have factual questions, it will be of little help (one short chapter and a reference section).

I love going to lake George,, it's so beautiful and clean and clear, So I was very interested when I saw this book. I have since loaned it out to friends and family. They loved it as well. I would suggest buying this interesting book. I had no idea how many ship actually went down in that lake. It will be different when I visit next summer.

Many publishers have sets of "high-low" books intended for older readers with limited reading skills but these do not follow the principles of the Orton-Gillingham-based reading programs - systematic, highly structured, recursive in its presentation of skills taught, and with progress predicated on mastery of the current level of skills being taught. Now, Pamela Brookes has created DOG ON A LOG Chapter Books that follow an incremental, phonics-based pattern and work well with O-G based programs.These wonderful little books have "chapters," so that students feel that the books are a bit more sophisticated. Another advantage of these books is that they have just enough pictures to increase interest in the stories but not so many as to allow the reader to get the story from the pictures. Reading is necessary. Ms. Brookes has also created DOG ON A LOG Let's GO! Books. This complementary set of books tell the same stories with more pictures and less text. These books allow for skill practice in a format which may be less intimidating for some students until they feel confident enough to approach the chapter books. My child needed an ongoing supply of systematic phonics booksthat use an Orton-Gllingham approach. This proved to be a nearly impossible,expensive task so I decided to write them myself. I want toshare our books with new readers and their families. I also want to make themaffordable. All books are available in both digital and paper editions. Themost cost effective version is a digital collection of five same-step books.The paperback version of the five book collections is a bit more, but is stilla lost less expensive than buying the individual paper books. Due to productioncosts, the individual paperbacks are the most expensive way to buy these books.However, these books give kids a chance to hold a book and say, "I readthis WHOLE book." Since every family will have different needs anddifferent budgets, I am making the books available in multiple formats. All thepaperbacks have black and white pictures to keep prices down. The digital booksall have color pictures.     As ourreading journey progresses I will continue to write books for my daughter andto share them with other families. I was notgoing to include artwork because that is not my talent. However, my daughterwas adamant she wanted her books to include pictures. I may not be able todraw, but I can photoshop images so I take public domain images and adapted toeach story. I am grateful to the artists who have made their images availablefor public domain uses. These sweet images give my daughter a break when thereading is challenging. I hope othernew readers will be entertained by these stories as they practice, and master,each step of their reading journey.  PamelaBrookes

Purchased this for my dyslexic daughter. Finally, a reader she can read without struggling. The author has somehow put words together in a slow progression to help the struggling reader find some success. Highly recommend. Not your average reader!

This is a great resource for anyone interested in selling or buying a business. It covers all the basics and is a good place to start. However, a smart business owner will have advisors help him in the process including a good CPA, attorney, financial planner, banker, and business broker.

I loved this book. The author does a wonderful job telling us what is involved in buying and selling a business. If you are thinking about buying a business to run yourself, or buying a business to add to an existing business, then this book will open your eyes to the process and demystify the process if you aren't knowledgeable about the subject already.When covering how to evaluate the target business (the one you are considering to buy) the author discusses how to analyze the seller's operations and its financial statements. He also emphasizes that it is important to consider why the seller is selling.When covering how to negotiate the sale the author discusses how much to pay, when to pay, stock purchases, asset purchases, and the purchase agreement terms. Since stock purchases were mentioned, I probably would have liked the book better if it had included a chapter on tax-free reorganizations. Adding such a chapter would have at least let readers know that such an animal exists. But maybe it would have been beyond the scope of the book?The book is organized into 8 topics:1. How to choose the business that is right for you2. Evaluating the Target3. Negotiating the Sale4. How to buy a franchise5. Choosing the form in which to conduct business6. Financing the purchase7. The closing8. Some thoughts on selling a businessAppendices included: Sample Letter of Intent, Sample Purchase Agreement, and Sample Business Plan.My favorite sections of the book for me were the third and fifth topics. The author did a wonderful job of explaining how to put a value on a target company. And he did a great job explaining Choice of Legal Entity issues. The annotated purchase agreement with exhibits in Appendix II was very helpful. And the sample business plan included in Appendix III for a building components manufacturing business was great. 5 stars!

Good information, well-written, and easy to understand because it's well-organized with little use of jargon. Author shows his experience, provides samples and relevant commentary.

This is so beautiful. I apparently have been living under a rock and only just recently hard of the burning man art. This book is beautifully made. I got it as a gift for my boyfriend who is a veteran burner. It is very heavy and the box it comes in is rock solid. The pages feel very luxurious and the photographs are gorgeous. However your fingerprints will leave marks on the glossy pages. Nice collectors edition if you want to take a look back at the art of Burning Man.

As a former Burner, I am overwhelmed and delighted with the exceptional photos and historic information about some of the greatest events of my life. Went in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005 and 2007. Would love to go again but at 78 it is a daunting possibility, but maybe.....

You can't appreciate the scale of Burning Man until you read this book. Honestly, the pictures make a once-barren landscape ethereal-with a hefty dose of humor in the mix.

Photos are top shelf, and the background text helps put it in perspective. An interesting coffee table book.

Incredibly beautiful book. If you haven't been to BM - this book will help you to visualize what it is about. If you have - it will help you to relive that experience again and again.

I already LOVED the last book, but Joey Fly 2 is an even better told tale, rich with Reynold's clever dialogue, fantastic humor for all ages, and a seriously terrific mystery. Numberman's fantastic cartoons are not only brimming with hilarious personality, but he adds so many wonderful details and visual gags throughout that it rewards multiple re-reads. I highly recommend giving both of these books as a gift to any young reader (or yourself), as these are truly unique and fun characters regardless of age or interest. This could honestly be destined for classic as a humor series, but I believe getting these stories into the hands of the right reader at the right age will produce enjoyment, memories, and influence in intangible ways.

Clever wordplay takes center stage in "Joey Fly Private Eye 2: Big Hairy Drama". Joey Fly is a classic gumshoe, full of snappy retorts and puns. The only difference between this and other entries in the genre? All of the characters are insects. In the second book in the series, Joey Fly and his bumbling sidekick, Sammy Stingtail, are charged with finding the missing lead actress of a local theater. Investigating the crime gives plenty of opportunities to teach about theater vocabulary and idioms, while following the traditional narrative pattern of a mystery."Big Hairy Drama" would serve as a great first graphic novel for readers, as it is very easy to follow. Among the clues (heh) given: the narrative is written in typed boxes, while the dialogue is in a different font, and each setting has a different colored background. These aids not only assist the reader, but also add to the reading experience.Author Aaron Reynolds and illustrator Neil Numberman have created a series that belong on the shelf in all elementary school classroom libraries.
