Review

“Drawing on academic research and anecdotal evidence, the book makes a strong pedagogical case.” —Kirkus Reviews“Lani Guinier, Harvard’s first Black tenured law professor, has the gift of dazzling us in speech and on the page. . . .This one is a #mustread!” —Essence Magazine“The Tyranny of Meritocracy is a timely book. With more colleges and universities adopting test-optional admissions policies, strident criticism of the new Common Core tests emerging, and major revisions to the No Child Left Behind legislation looming on the horizon, the role that standardized testing will play in the future of American education is genuinely up for debate. Voices like Guinier’s that imagine alternatives to an educational system oriented around testing are a welcome addition to the conversation.” —The Boston Review “This little book is an answer to the big question ‘Why is our so-called meritocracy so blatantly unfair?’ With characteristic brilliance and insight, Lani Guinier not only answers the big question but points the way toward a more just and inclusive conception of education in a democratic society.  Her transformative vision offers a hopeful alternative to our modern ‘testocracy,’ which values standardized test scores (which measure little more than access to privilege) over the values and qualities that will contribute to a genuinely thriving, collaborative democracy.  Tyranny of the Meritocracy is a must-read for all those who have guessed, but could not prove, that our hypercompetitive approach to higher education—which rewards those with the most wealth and privilege and blames the rest for their plight—not only makes a mockery of the term ‘meritocracy’ but endangers our democracy.” –Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow   “A visitor from Mars might wonder why—in assigning opportunity to individuals and status to higher education institutions—we  rely so heavily on a highly imperfect operationalization of merit—the standardized test—or at least why there is so little debate about this practice. In this compelling, beautifully written book, Lani Guinier, one of our nation's greatest legal minds, launches this debate anew. Hear! Hear!”   –Claude Steele, executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of California–Berkeley   “Lani Guinier has written a new book that digs deep into the issue of meritocracy . . . a very powerful report on how we are to look at meritocracy and think about it in the twenty-first century. This book has something for every generation:  students, professors, and business leaders.  I recommend it with great enthusiasm. Read it and learn, but also be one who looks very carefully at the issue of meritocracy and what it means today.” –Charles J. Ogletree Jr., author of The Presumption of Guilt and All Deliberate Speed   “What I know is this:  we used to advertise for errand boys of ‘good German descent’ and we no longer do.  We don’t because we now know that merit lies not in ethnic descent but in other places—in the ideas we have, in the work we do.  It is quite clear than in another fifty years today’s systems of judging merit will seem to a new generation to be similar to our view of asking for a good German boy.  Lani Guinier, America’s leading civil rights theorist, makes us question the notion of merit today so that we may achieve our own aspirations of an enlightened citizenry.” –Mahzarin R. Banaji, coauthor of Blind Spot: Hidden Biases of Good People

Ms. Guinier makes a very strong case as to why higher education (in this country) is fast becoming something for the elites in society. She makes it very clear that in order to be fully informed, we first need to know definitions. Meritocracy is not about what one has earned, but is more about one's (upper) economic status. And with that said, there is little to no room for those individuals that are born into a lower class. As a society, we moving more toward higher education be only for the elites. Who can pay for expensive test preparations for the ACT and SAT? Which students can be exposed to many of the activities, functions, and opportunities that catches the "eye" of the universities and colleges? Only the elite classThis is a well written and researched book that does not come across as wonky. She makes a very good argument why and how things need to change.

I've been fortunate enough to study under Lani Guinier in law school. She is one of the most brilliant people I've ever met. Read this, search for and watch her videos on YouTube. She is a treasure and her work is invaluable.

Guinier drives the point home that standardized testing does not always tell the full story about a person's potential for academic success. Her sterling examples of the students in the Posse Foundation who have gone on to score undergraduate and graduate degrees is proof that people can succeed despite bad to mediocre test scores. I wholeheartedly endorse Guinier's position that a person's overall track record is a better indicator of competence than a one-time so-called "aptitude" test. Bravo!!!

Excellent, well thought out piece of literature. Sadly, it speaks to the need to completely shatter the current educational paradigm that we have all become accustomed to because it is neither equitable nor balanced. This book is a serious wake up call to any and all who are really committed to educational equity and social justice.

Easy read and I enjoyed reading it!

Refreshing to read a book that demonstrates the author's grasp of what's wrong with education in America today. As Ms. Guinier emphasizes, qualitative factors do matter. We need a new narrative for the American Dream. I believe Ms. Guinier has accurately framed the challenges facing education in America today, if we want to include all members of society into that new narrative! Thank you so much.

great analysis and well written.she is profoundly persuasive. also great discussion points for any book club.

I tell you, this one hits the nail on the head 👍

"Nerdy, Shy, and Socially Inappropriate" is a much-needed book.Kim's writing addresses a population of adults with Asperger's who have not, thus far, had an articulate voice in Asperger's literature: "good girls" (and "good boys") who quietly make it to adulthood without being diagnosed. Those who have struggled through school and work, taking their challenges upon themselves, and succeeded enough to pass as intelligent people not quite working to their potential, will find this a particularly welcome text. The same traits that keep these "quiet kids" under the radar as children continue to create difficulties into adulthood, and Kim is a knowledgeable and sympathetic guide for this experience. As it now stands, popular Asperger's literature can be foreign terrain for those in whom intelligence and disability coexist with a overcharged sense of responsibility. The warranted success of memoirists like John Elder Robison and Jeannie Davide-Rivera (alongside more sober but extremely gifted advocates such as Temple Grandin) is creditable to their ability to tell evocative, energetic stories about themselves. While all of these authors are strong narrators, theirs are stories that only a small minority with Asperger's can recognize themselves in. If Temple Grandin's exceptional mind makes her a fascinating person and a patient and talented teacher in the neurology of autism, her personal experience is difficult to identify with unless you are yourself a savant. Robison and Davide-Rivera, conversely, present life with Asperger's as a sort of heedless tear through childhood and adolescence, full of risk-seeking behavior and impulsive experience, followed by a long denouement (after diagnosis) in which those adventures are retold and sifted for clues. Plenty of adults with Asperger's do find kinship with the latter authors' sense of "otherness." Those with a risk-averse experience of autism, however, can start to feel unwelcome in the popular narrative.Kim's contribution to Asperger's memoir literature is not so much a biography for the "rest of us," however, as it is an adventure memoir of interiority. Both "squeaky wheels" and quiet observers will recognize their own challenges in this book, especially where Kim turns from personal anecdote to practical suggestions for maintaining relationships in adulthood. Her investigations of executive function impairments, control, and shame are some of the best written in any work on Asperger's.Kim's book, however, is specifically an account of a life spent trying, prior to diagnosis, to observe and mold herself into the right kind of character for every situation and every person, accumulating rules and reactions that felt inauthentic to her own personality. Beyond the challenges of social life and expectations, she describes a permanent well of deep, personal contentment and capacity for wonder. This emphasis on interiority is what makes Kim's book unique and necessary. Kim captures the richness of adaptation as much as its frustrations. Her descriptions of the elation and the intense, pure joy that she believes is unique to those with autism, for example, is a piece of psychological art few have approached in their Asperger's-centered biographies. Moreover, she treats this hard-won practice of adaptation as a finely-honed discipline, and one that can act as an unexpected reserve of strength when the desire to "make up for lost time" and reclaim years of lost potential is constructively acted on after diagnosis.Though Kim's book addresses gender very sparingly, its place in the current literature makes this an especially beneficial guide for women on the spectrum. To oversimplify the current portrayals of women in Asperger's writing, they tend towards two divergent descriptions. On one end is the impulsive, free-spirited, otherworldly Asperger's woman. Davide-Rivera's pride in her tendency to act without consideration of consequences as a young girl falls into this camp, as does Simone's argument that women with Asperger's have near-paranormal talents. On the other end, there is the controlling-unto-normalcy Asperger's woman, whose herculean self-restraint in adolescence makes her Asperger's symptoms nearly impossible to detect by early adulthood. The well-intentioned argument by Tony Attwood that a young person with Asperger's will ideally move from the home of a "secretary-mother" (who compensates for the executive shortfalls of the Asperger's child), to the home of the "secretary-wife" (who compensates for the executive shortfalls of the Asperger's man) illustrates the latter description well. Both settle for describing coping mechanisms and adopted social identities, without considering the possibilty of a self-aware, self-accepting adult.Attwood's developmental leap mirrors persistent errors of omission in the wider popular writing on adults with Asperger's. These errors assume that single adults with Asperger's are fated to remain dependent on their parents or caretakers; that men with Asperger's do not (and maybe should not) pursue relationships with men or women with Asperger's; and perhaps most disheartening, that women with Asperger's- unlike men- are on their own after adolescence. These lacunae cannot be amended in one volume, but Kim has addressed their common theme of dependence in a strong first entry to what will hopefully become a broader genre for adults newly-diagnosed with Asperger's. That is, experience-based guidance for living a relatively "normal" life, constructively seeking out neurological and practical adaptations, and-most importantly- acknowledging the centrality of strong relationships.Kim anchors her narrative in her relationship with her husband, which not only provides insight into her own story, but acts as a means for portraying lifelong challenges into adulthood. "Maybe you need a minder," Kim writes of herself in the last chapter. "I have one! The problem is, I'm married to him. How uncool-- not to mention unromantic and unsexy and unequal-partnershipy is it when my husband needs to remind me to do all these little things?"This is an inner struggle, not to mention a source of shame, that many of Kim's readers in relationships will find familiar. Its resolution, within her relationship, is as valuable as her courage in posing it: "I... asked him if he doesn't get tired... He laughed and said, 'Of course, but what am I going to do? We chose each other.'" The ability to communicate this kind of concrete, interpersonal sense of worthiness, with an eye towards fully growing into oneself, is what makes Kim, as much as Grandin and Robison, an exceptional memoirist.

Having read Cynthia Kim's other book, "I Think I Might Be Autistic: A Guide to Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnosis and Self-Discovery for Adults," I was very eager to read this followup. As with her first book, this one does a superb job of offering support for those on the spectrum, specifically Asperger's Syndrome. In her latest book, "Nerdy, Shy, and Socially Inappropriate: A User Guide to an Asperger Life," Cynthia Kim explores in detail and offers sound advice on a number of topics common to those with Asperger's Syndrome, including problems with social skills, obsessive thought patterns, communication difficulties, eccentric behaviors, rituals, limited interest range, problems with coordination, etc.She does an outstanding job of explaining in easy to understand language, the anguish of living with this disability. Of more importance, is her insight into the best ways to make this disability into more of a positive than a negative trait. She explains that many extremely gifted and talented people live with Asperger's Syndrome and in many ways having the diagnosis can be a blessing. Since she was never diagnosed as a child, all of the characteristics of Asperger's were unknown to her until adulthood. Unlike the vast majority of books on the subject, this one and its predecessor offer heartfelt hope for adults who are on the spectrum, or for those who may be wondering if they are.She explores all of the behavior characteristics of a person with Asperger's, and offers reassurance that it's nothing to be ashamed about. This book provides answers to so many questions that needed to be addressed. Since the author wasn't officially diagnosed with Asperger's until she was in her 40's, no one is in a better position than her to discuss the ramifications of going through life knowing that you're different, but having no clue as to why. The author explains all of the oddities of living with this condition, and does so in an honest and humorous way. She provides so many examples from her own life, and explains how difficult it was growing up 'different,' but being clueless as to why.Living with Asperger's can be very frustrating, especially so if you're an adult and have never been officially diagnosed. Spending your life on the outside of social circles, being extremely uncomfortable around large groups of people, being afraid of saying the wrong thing; these are common traits of people with Asperger's Syndrome. Without a diagnosis, it can easily lead to a feeling of hopelessness, depression and just wondering what's wrong with me. This book addresses all of these issue and a whole lot more. It's not only a great reference for those who've been diagnosed, but even more so for those who may think that they have this disability. Hopefully this book will show up when someone does a search for characteristics of Asperger's, such as shyness and awkward social behavior. It would be a shame to have such a useful book go unnoticed by those who could benefit most. My fear is that while a search for a book on Asperger's would direct you toward this book, a search for characteristics may not. This book needs to be heavily marketed by the mental health community.Reading this book lifts the fog that people with Asperger's live with on a daily basis. It summarizes what living with Asperger's is all about, and does so in a way that few other books come close to. The author writes from personal experience and this is what sets this book apart. It offers all sorts of suggestions on how to make your life, not only better, but great. It clears up many misconceptions about living on the spectrum. Most of all, it provides hope for those who had none before. It's like a user guide to life, only in this case it's more specifically a user guide to life with Asperger's Syndrome. I highly recommend this book for anyone who's been diagnosed with Asperger's, their families, or anyone who may think that they may have this diagnosis. You won't be disappointed and after reading the book, you'll have a much better understanding as to why your life has evolved the way it has.

Cynthia Kim is one of the preeminent writers today on what some call “the lost generation:” older adults who are being diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Today’s generation of older adults grew up before the schools were identifying and diagnosing children with autism. Hans Asperger’s work on Asperger’s, a high–functioning autism, wasn’t even translated into English until 1991.Kim was diagnosed in 2012 at the age of 42, and within months was blogging about her process of discovering herself as a woman with autism. [Musing of an Aspie.] Her first book is an excellent account of the symptoms of autism and the diagnostic process – with professionals or alone. Her recent book is a summary of what she has learned on her journey, with suggestions for readers on dealing with a variety of issues. In her chapter headings, “Growing Up Undiagnosed,” she says: “Kids like me were labeled nerdy, shy, or gifted.” Later she says, “I made it well into middle age before realizing that I wasn’t just shy or weird or nerdy. That I wasn’t going to outgrow my quirks and wake up to suddenly find I was ‘normal.”Other chapter title includes: “Parenting Aspie Style,” “The Autistic Body,” and “Redefining Myself.”It is a well-written must-read for anyone who wants to understand today’s newly diagnosed adults; or who is one.Wilma Wake, LCSW

If you’ve come this far, you’d be crazy not to follow “Injustice: Gods Among Us” into its third year. It’s every bit as good as the first two years were. This time, Tom Taylor throws the realm of magic into the mix, making it a very Constantine-centric run of books. It’s a real rollercoaster ride, and a lot of ground gets covered in these thirteen issues. It feels like we’re no nearer to a resolution by the time it’s all said and done, but that’s okay with me; if they can maintain this level of quality, I’ll definitely be along for the ride. Bring on year four!

I'm relatively new to Tom Taylor's writing, but he continues to hit it out the park in Year 3. Taylor has a very impressive ability to deftly weave DC characters together with the right balance of subtle nods to their history as well as minor-expository reminders as to who everyone is. He also seems to have an instinct for what character interactions, developments, and arcs will work given their histories. I'm not sure I've seen a writer do this quite so well since some of Geoff Johns' earlier work. My only minor complaint (thus the 4 stars) is that this feels a bit more overloaded than the prior two years. And as a result there is more emphasis on the escalating magical action than there is on either how the Regime is progressing or what the characters are experiencing. The latter is still present, just not as developed. There is more time spent on playing out escalating mysteries regarding certain characters, than exploring their motivations. But still, really great continuation of the series.

Continuing from Years One and Two, writer Tom Taylor weaves a convincing story from the original premise and keeps it not only moving forward but keeps the reader guessing as, with this alternate DC Comics universe, you never quite know what, or who, is just around the corner.

Without much experience reading DC Comics, I dove into the Injustice series a bit after it came out and was completely immersed and couldn't stop reading.Year 3 continues this addictive tale that takes on new and unexpected twists while ensuring each development makes sense.

Fantastic book. Great series

Despite some writing flaws of questionable motivation for certain characters and the occasional lampshading of plot devices, the Injustice Universe stroy carries on strong in the third year. This chapter takes a very heavy mystical lean and the primary addition is the antihero John Constantine.

Started to feel drawn out. Just not as interesting as last volume. Main character’s chain-smoking was unnecessary. Read more like a “filler” part of the overall story.

Super hero's meets Harry Potter? This is the magic year. Though I have to say I did get a little lost at times, I still really enjoyed it.

Finite Element Mesh Generation

Review

"… the present monograph fills a gaping hole in the literature on scientific computing… it could be subtitled by 'All you want to know about mesh generation'."―Zentralblatt MATH, 2015 "This book provides a well-structured and thorough treatment of very recent research on mesh generation, in a single well organized document. The descriptions of methods and algorithms are complete and provide readers with all the necessary information needed to implement on their own the algorithms and methods discussed in the book. Numerical examples provide concrete measures of the performance of the algorithms and can serve as a reference for those interested in validating their own implementations." ―Francois Guibault, Polytechnique Montreal, Canada "…there are very few books on this subject. Daniel Lo’s book (examining the contents) offers a practical point of view and gives details on some topics which, I think, are not cover[ed] by the other books on meshing techniques."―Houman Borouchaki, Université de Technologie de Troyes, France"This book brings together the major propulsion system components with control oriented models and actuators to enable software and hardware-in-the-loop simulations. … This book will provide students with a detailed set of component models and simulation tools to learn Rapid Control Prototyping methods."―Douglas J. Nelson, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Virginia Tech "This book is aimed at those who want a comprehensive overview of the techniques of finite-element mesh generation. The techniques and algorithms are clearly explained and there are good references to follow up where greater detail is required. However, there is probably a broader readership among practising engineers, who use the finite-element method on a daily basis, and who want a better understanding of the tools they rely on as a basis for their calculations." ―Stephen Hendry, Engineering and Computational Mechanics

This is a very important piece of work. Morrow very diligently excavates, examines, and parses every statement, interview, and passing comment from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in an attempt to apportion credit and blame to these titanic creators. It's an engaging read, like a great police procedural. However, the author's attempts to claim objectivity are as transparent as Sue Storm: he says as much in the introduction, having been an expert witness for the Kirby clan in a seminal lawsuit. This is too bad; all of the Kirby enthusiasts enter this complex arena with a Skurge-size axe to grind. Also, there's a Mole Man-esque myopia (ok, I'll stop) about what makes comics--particularly the Marvel Age of Comics--so memorable. It's not just the action sequences or the panel-to-panel conflict; it's the characterizations, the interior monologues, the dialogue, the ongoing story lines, the catch phrases. There's no discussion about, say, the still-resonant Spider-Man#50, which Kirby had nothing to do with, let alone the innumerable soap operas, classics tag lines, and personal dramas that must of have been Stan's sole purview. And what's wrong with being the promotional voice of Marvel? Stan's Soapbox, small and large, was what told a generation of comic fans that they were to be respected and shared a deep personal commonality. Weighed against, say, Kirby's turgid, impenetrable Fourth World universe, I think Stan's vision for comics was more transformative and inclusive, when the day is done. Of course, Stan's passing, which was not anticipated by the author, makes this all the more poignant. I'd ask fans of the Universe--rather than Kirby partisans--what made the Universe so memorable and made it feel like a special club all their own. And a lot of that has to do with Stan.

I'm a sucker for these "behind the scenes" history of comics style books, especially Marvel history. Good stuff. It's obviously slanted towards the Pro-Kirby argument, but the author does his best to remain neutral and gives quotes supporting both sides of the "who created what" argument that's gone on for decades. When the author speculates something, or makes educated guesses, it is noted as such.I'd read/seen several of the quotes included in this book (mostly Stan Lee's) in various places over the years, MMW intros, interviews, etc. But they do a SUPER AMAZING exhaustive job on researching each key point in Marvel's history in an effort to root out exactly who contributed what. The book also contains insight and quotes from a who's who of all time classic comic creators besides Lee & Kirby, including Joe Simon, Roy Thomas, John Severin, Wally Wood, misc members of the Marvel staff in the 60s and more. They even dig deep in to letters that Lee wrote to fans back in the day with responses to letters published in the letter's columns. Like I said, exhaustive research. Well done!

No matter what your position is on the question of who created the Marvel Universe; Kirby or Lee, you will find this book filled with interesting tidbits about what went into it's creation. This book is chocked full of photos, art, and documents. It gives you real insight into the world of making comics from the 40's to the 70's. It is a good read and I highly recommend it.

Being a fan of Marvel Comics for over 40 years, I’ve always wondered about the genus is of their characters and the thoughts and motivations of the people behind all of their iconic characters. This book gives month by month detailed information From the people who were there. You can see the passion of the author in every page, as conversations are documents from every side possible. If you’ve ever wondered how Stan Lee and Jack Kirby felt in the moment from year to year, this is your resource.

...so well told. Black Bolt and his ironic screaming of the title on the splash page prepares the reader for a great ride. I'm sure, by now, everyone is set in their 'who said what/did what' point of view when it comes to Kirby and Lee and the story of getting proper credit and compensation for their work and this book will do little to change anyone's mind. However, it elegantly and eloquently gives us all of the quotes (in context) for the players in order to once again, revisit this sorry saga. With added input from Ditko quotes and many others, it gives a good account of this murky story. The book is the usual great quality expected from the publisher. So, 5 stars. Can't recommend it enough.

As with virtually all TwoMorrows books, this book is an incredibly well-researched and thorough examination of its topic... one that's created some of the most passionate and fiery debates in all of comics fandom.Stan Lee's versions of events in the creation of the Marvel Universe is the one most commonly accepted as the truth, despite being refuted by numerous co-creators such as Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Wallace Wood, Stan Goldberg, Dick Ayers, Joe Orlando, Gil Kane, and others. This book allows you to hear all sides of this fascinating subject from a variety of attributed sources.I can't tell you what an incredible package this is -- it would take an ordinary fan years to track down all these interviews and articles. To have it in one handy guide is a dream-come-true for anyone interested in this subject. And while the author certainly has his point of view and speculates at times, the beautiful thing is that you can read the quotes themselves and make up your own mind. It really is something else and a "must have" for any fan of Stan, Jack, and the Marvel universe.

A tour de force month by month depiction of the working relationship of Kirby and Lee told in their own words from meticulously researched quotes from the time and in much later interviews about the times.Amazing amount of hard work to put this together. Gives an interesting and nuanced view of what actually happened during the years of the creation of the Marvel Univetse. This is a must read for anyone interested in the history of Marvel, comics, or the iconic characters that revolutionized an industry

A very enjoyable read. Thanks for pulling this ton of research together, folks.

I wanted to like this novel. It had potential. Unfortunately, there were certain things that annoyed me enough to ruin the novel overall.Recently, I have been seriously into reverse harem romance. Good ones seem difficult to find, however. Runes of Truth seemed to have promise but was riddled with problems.Evie is a strong female lead, though at times she acts immature for her age. The writing overall felt directed at a younger audience than it should. There was little if any world development, which is a shame considering the author could have done so much with it. The fantasy part was the best part of the novel, but, while the reader gets a glimpse of things here and there, there is little explanation about the magic and races. Maybe that is why the reader is so confused at the end when the author brings about a certain aspect, leaving the reader scratching their heads. It wasn’t skilled writing that keeps the twist from being revealed. Just the opposite in fact.I was also put off by Evie’s bad blood against Azi. I am always floored when I read romance/erotica where the female falls in love with a demon and then becomes upset when said love interest acts like a demon. Evie thinks Azi betrayed her, but her reasoning is so ignorant and just bad that I laughed out loud at it. It’s like when someone falls for a grim reaper and then becomes upset and takes it out on said reaper when someone close to them dies. It’s so nonsensical that it infuriates me. What did you expect them to do? Change their entire way of life just because you’re in a sexual relationship?I was pretty much done with the novel as a whole when Evie starts making out with one of her male escorts as soon as she gets him alone. Well, that’s all good and well, but they are literally in hell where everything is trying to kill them. I don’t know about you, but when I am actively being hunted, I don’t really care about getting my rocks off. And then here comes Azi acting all jealous and possessive. I could excuse that a bit since demons don’t typically like their stuff being touched. But he went all alpha male, yelling the typical “she is mine” bs when he hasn’t contacted her for half a year.I feel like the review turned into one big rant, which wasn’t my intention at all. When I initially started the story, I was exciting, soaking up each and every word. But the writing, lack of explanation for anything, and scenarios listed above ruined the entire series for me.

While this was a very interesting plot with good characters, this book was filled with spelling and grammar errors (reading like a first draft with run on sentences and awkward phrasing). There is so much potential in the story line and the series concept, it's a shame it wasn't more polished. There is also a cliffhanger ending with lots of twisty-hints, so be prepared to purchase another book if you want to find out what happens.

I made myself finish this "book". I kind of made it an exercise in correct grammar and sentence structure in my head. I'm not sure how this author has so many 4 and 5 star reviews, but this... *sigh* This is just awful. I would have assumed is was written by a high school girl who's flunking out of her grade, it's so bad. The situations are awkward, the characters are awkward, this whole book is awkward. I would only recommend this as an example for what NOT to do when it comes to writing. I wish I could have been this authors editor or proof reader, because clearly she needs new ones!

Paranormal. Rh. 4 guys. 1 demon 3 protectors. Badass, assassin, confident, sexy, kind heroine. Finally! I've been waiting forever for this release. I've been hook since a teaser trailer. And boi was I not disappointed.Evie has always had to fight for her life. Someone is trying to killer her but, she has no clue to whom or why. Three warriors take Evie's ward hostage for leverage. They want her help the get into hell to save kidnapped princesses. Evie is now my new favorite heroine. She is so badass and confident. This story was definitely a great intro story to a rh. Just the right amount of sexual tension and a lot of action.... 😜 not that kind of action. Have already preordered the next one. Can't wait.

I loved this book and am sad that the next one isn't out until July. This is the first book that I have read from the author and I will now spend the next few weeks quietly devouring everything else she has written.Evie, the MC, is a total bad ass with a heart of gold. I loved her personality and the way the author choose to write her as a real person and not one so consumed by being bitter after the hard upbringing she has had. All of the guys were special, but I have a soft spot for Azi.It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, but it sets it up beautifully for the next book!

If this author had hired an editor it would be better. If she already has one, they need to be fired. Too many errors in this book to make it enjoyable. The story had potential and would probably be good for someone who reads at a third grade level.

Evie is an amazingly strong female lead who has spent a lifetime fighting to survive. She loves deeply without boundaries those she brings in to her inner circle and still as deadly as they come. Azi, her once upon a time demon lover, has some serious explaining to do about the.. uh humm.. woman between his legs and those protectors really need to step up their game. Over all, I really enjoyed this book but do wish there was more in the way of world building and descriptions of everything else.

Ahhh, I think this one's the best read I've had from the author. But maaan, I didn't know the second book is due June/July? Huhuhuhu let me cry like the spoiled brat that I am. Evie was so freaking cool I just couldn't wait what she's going to do with Erica. LMAO. It's just so cool when a heroine is just as vengeful as the reader. /evil cackle
